To be eligible for Best Picture, a film must meet the threshold in two out of the four following standards:

Good evening,

Standard A: On-Screen Representation
This is the category your first two points fall under. A film meets this standard if it achieves one of the following:

Lead or Significant Supporting Actors: At least one of the lead actors or significant supporting actors is from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group.

General Ensemble Cast: At least 30% of all actors in secondary and minor roles are from at least two underrepresented groups (Women, LGBTQ+, underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, or people with disabilities).

Main Storyline: The primary storyline, theme, or narrative is centered on an underrepresented group.

Standard B: Creative Leadership and Project Team
This aligns with your third point. To meet this standard, the film needs:

Department Heads: At least two of the following creative leadership roles (e.g., Director, Casting Director, Cinematographer, Costume Designer, Editor, Producer, etc.) must be from underrepresented groups.

Other Key Roles: At least one of those positions must belong to an underrepresented racial or ethnic group.

Overall Team: At least 30% of the overall crew must be from underrepresented groups.

Standard C: Industry Access and Opportunities
This focuses on the "pipeline" of talent:

Paid Internships: The major studio or distributor must have substantive, paid internship or apprenticeship programs for underrepresented groups.

Training/Workshops: The film’s production, distribution, or financing company must offer training and professional development for below-the-line workers.

Standard D: Audience Development
This concerns the marketing and distribution teams:

Marketing & Publicity: The studio or film company must have multiple senior executives from underrepresented groups on their marketing, publicity, and distribution teams.

So, I dont wanna dish on anybody, but no wonder movies lately have been feeling off, heartless, rehashed, and generally underwelming...

If the criteria for landing a role is based on the race rather than the skills, how is that better than racism?

Take for example the new Troya. I love Lupitas acting and I used to love Hellen Page, but how are you gonna cast as example of virility and manhood a person that isnt even a real man (My apologies for this community, Im not trying to downplay you, but these people ARE public and bound for critisizim even when they do no wrong) and in what universe is Lupita the prettiest woman on earth? have they seen any other black girl?

I need your takes, and sorry if mines upset you, I get it.

Reading that became depressing really fast. One is supposed to be recognized by their talent, not through force of law and regulation.
#3 Ilandar
So you really think the main reason the films you are watching are "worse" is because of affirmative action?
#4 nerv
It's trying to force an outcome instead of addressing the underlying issues.

How did you get that from there?

What Im saying if that if you are forced to hire -this people- maybe -this people2- could have done better but you wanted to compete for the oscar, yes?

Talking about minorities, look at sinners, Indie, full of minorities, a work of art. BUT THEY DIDNT GOT TOLD WHO TO HIRE. They found their team and it worked great, even the winner of the oscar for best song or music or something was singing in the streets prior to the movies... it doesnt work that way when you need the teams to work instead of having working teams

I dislike the of minorities being in any way segregated, even if for positive reasons. There should not be that need.

By default, people deserve and need to be respected and accepted as they are, regardless of skin tone, language, creed, nationality.

We are humans.

Our diversity was what made us strong and resilient enough to take the challenges nature put in our collective way as a species. We thrived in adversity because we are diverse and that diversity made us adaptable.

People are just that: people. Shoe horning a person into something just to look right and proper is idiotic. If someone has the talent, knowledge and know-how to fill a role, they should fill it.

Because they have too many minorities...? Is that what you're suggesting?
#8 Elilol
Let me know your race and sexuality before I know if I wanna hir.. answer you.

(Nope, forced hiring.)
#9 Elilol
Plz tell me your race and sexuality before I decide if I want to answer that question.

Yes, is THAT absurd.
#10 Elilol
exactly, how am I supposed to hire YOU (sorry you're not rhe right race) when I have to hire this other person (please tell me your race and sexuality)

WTF

HOW IS THIS NOT WORSE??????????????

Yes! Why dont they fund minorities schools? or minorities disctrics, they have the coin... why dont they make their own school for minorities or whatever. its just, putting gum on the radioactive leak, Homero style.
