Final Fantasy VII Revelation Shows Off Ruby, Emerald and Ultima Weapon in New Gamescom Trailer
Final Fantasy VII Revelation has received a new gameplay trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live, giving fans a closer look at the giant Weapons that will appear in the final game of Square Enix's remake trilogy.
The trailer puts several familiar names from the original Final Fantasy VII in the spotlight, including Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon and Ultima Weapon. The enormous creatures are shown attacking across different environments as Cloud and his companions prepare for the events surrounding the game's final chapter.
The Weapons return
The Weapons were among the most memorable encounters in the original Final Fantasy VII, and Square Enix is bringing them back in a substantially different visual form for Revelation.
The new footage shows the giant creatures during battles on land and in the air, while also giving a glimpse of an underwater encounter. The scale of the fights is a major focus of the trailer, with the Weapons towering over the party and creating some of the game's largest combat encounters shown so far.
Square Enix has also described the Weapons as part of the challenges awaiting Cloud and his companions as the planet faces a major crisis.
The Highwind gets another look
The trailer also puts more attention on the Highwind, the iconic airship that will play an important role in exploring the world of Revelation.
Players will be able to travel across a much larger world, with the new footage showing different ways of reaching areas and moving around the environment. The trailer also features Chocobo traversal and other exploration tools alongside the larger-scale battles.
These scenes give a better idea of how the final game is expanding beyond the more contained environments seen in earlier parts of the remake project.
Still planned for spring 2027
Final Fantasy VII Revelation remains scheduled for release in spring 2027. Square Enix has not announced an exact launch date yet.
The game is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, with the PC version set to launch through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Revelation will serve as the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake project, bringing Cloud and the rest of the party toward the conclusion of the reimagined story.
For now, the Gamescom trailer provides the clearest look yet at how some of Final Fantasy VII's most recognisable giant enemies are being adapted for the remake's final chapter.
