Star Wars: Galactic Racer's Tour Mode Adds Build-Based Depth to Multiplayer Racing
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is taking a more systems-heavy approach to multiplayer racing with its Tour mode, which combines traditional arcade racing with upgrades, abilities and build-based progression between events.
New details come from a preview build played by PC Gamer ahead of the game's October 6 release. The game is being developed by Fuse Games in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, rather than Respawn Entertainment as previously stated in the supplied material.
The Tour format is built around a series of races. Players can select different starting setups and then improve their vehicles as they progress through the tour. After races, they can increase base statistics and select additional parts that alter how their vehicle performs.
Racing With Builds and Abilities
The system gives players more decisions to make than simply choosing a vehicle and trying to finish first. Parts and abilities can be combined to create different builds, with some abilities affecting boosts, defensive options or offensive attacks.
Players also earn credits through their performance, which can be used to acquire additional upgrades and abilities. In the preview, another way of earning credits involved predicting how well the player would perform in a race, adding another layer of risk to the competition.
The multiplayer format can support up to 12 players, while the podracing variant supports up to eight. Podracing Tours also introduce bounties that reward players for pursuing particular objectives during a race.
The result is a multiplayer mode where progression between races can be almost as important as what happens on the track itself. The systems are similar in some respects to mechanics commonly found in roguelites and MOBAs, although the game remains fundamentally focused on racing rather than adopting the traditional structure of those genres.
A Different Take on Star Wars Racing
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is already confirmed to feature competitive multiplayer alongside its single-player campaign, and official material describes the game as a runs-based racing experience with different vehicle classes, upgrades and abilities.
The Tour mode adds another layer to that formula by allowing players to develop their vehicles throughout a series of races instead of treating every event as an entirely separate contest.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is scheduled to launch on October 6, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
