Players won't have to wait until launch day to download Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar Games has confirmed that pre-loading begins on November 10, giving console owners nine days to prepare before the game's release.
There is one important detail to keep in mind: GTA 6 requires up to 212 GB of storage space, depending on the platform. Players planning to download the game should make sure they have enough free space available.
GTA 6 Pre-Load Date and Times for PS5 and Xbox
The pre-load schedule differs between the two platforms. On PlayStation 5, digital pre-loading starts at midnight local time on November 10. Xbox Series X|S players will get access at 12:00 AM GMT on the same date.
For players in Belgium, the Xbox download becomes available at 1:00 AM CET.
- PS5: November 10 at midnight local time.
- Xbox Series X|S: November 10 at 12:00 AM GMT (1:00 AM in Belgium).
GTA 6 File Size: Up to 212 GB Required
According to Rockstar, the download requires up to 212 GB of available storage. The exact requirement depends on the platform, so the final download size may differ between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
With a file size this large, players may want to check their available console storage before the pre-load begins.
Does the Physical GTA 6 Version Include a Disc?
There is another detail worth knowing for players planning to buy a physical copy. The boxed versions are expected to reach retailers from November 12, but they will contain a download code rather than a game disc.
Physical buyers will therefore still need an internet connection and enough storage space to download the full game.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. With pre-loading starting nine days earlier, players have some time to get everything ready before launch.
