Nintendo has finally shown The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in much more detail during its 40th Anniversary Direct, revealing a closer look at the remake's gameplay on Nintendo Switch 2. The presentation also confirmed the game's release date and revealed new Zelda-themed hardware, amiibo and more.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. Alongside the release date, Nintendo showed several changes that make this version more than a simple visual upgrade.
Ocarina of Time gets new gameplay features
One of the most noticeable changes is how Link moves through the world. Unlike the original game, the remake gives players direct control over Link's jumps, allowing him to jump with a button press.
The camera has also been updated, giving players a more modern way to look around Hyrule. Nintendo showed familiar locations, characters and enemies during the presentation, while keeping the core adventure recognizable.
The remake also introduces Threads of Time, a new feature designed to help players keep track of their adventure and objectives.
A new way to play Zelda melodies
Music is another area where the remake adds something new. Players can use the Nintendo Switch 2 microphone to hum melodies, instead of relying only on traditional button inputs.
The game also features a new flute that Link can play. This gives players another way to interact with Zelda's familiar melodies and adds a new twist to one of the most recognizable parts of Ocarina of Time.
Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 revealed
Nintendo also officially unveiled the The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition of the Nintendo Switch 2.
The console features a Zelda-inspired design with Triforce imagery, along with themed Joy-Con controllers and a matching dock. Nintendo is also releasing a matching Switch 2 Pro Controller, as well as Zelda 40th Anniversary accessories including a carrying case and screen protector.
The special hardware and accessories will be available from October 29, 2026, shortly before the Ocarina of Time remake launches.
Importantly, the special edition Switch 2 does not include the Ocarina of Time remake. The hardware celebrates the wider history of The Legend of Zelda and its 40th anniversary.
New Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo
Nintendo also revealed two new amiibo based on the younger versions of Link and Zelda from Ocarina of Time.
The Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo will be released in 2027. They can be used with the remake to unlock special in-game masks with a retro-inspired look.
Nintendo also showed more of Zelda Notes, including features designed to help players keep track of their progress and activities.
More Zelda 40th Anniversary announcements
The Direct was not limited to Ocarina of Time. Nintendo also revealed additional Zelda 40th Anniversary products, including a real playable ocarina and other commemorative merchandise.
The presentation also included another look at the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie. The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on April 30, 2027.
With the release date now confirmed and Nintendo showing much more of the game in action, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is heading to Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.
