Minecraft is getting something it hasn't had in more than 14 years: a new dimension.
Mojang has confirmed that The Sift, previously introduced in Minecraft Dungeons II, is also coming to the main Minecraft game.
The Sift will be added to both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition in 2027. It will join the Overworld, Nether and End as a fourth dimension in Minecraft.
The announcement came during Minecraft Live. The Sift was already known as part of Minecraft Dungeons II, but this confirms that the dimension will eventually become part of Minecraft itself.
What we know about The Sift
The Sift has its own environments and creatures. In Minecraft Dungeons II, players can explore areas such as the Meadows and Carapace.
Mojang has also shown a brief in-development look at The Sift running in Minecraft itself. However, the studio hasn't revealed exactly how players will enter the dimension when it arrives in the main game.
That also means there are still plenty of questions. We don't yet know exactly which mobs, blocks or biomes from Dungeons II will make the jump to Minecraft, or how The Sift will fit into normal survival gameplay.
For now, Mojang is keeping those details quiet. The studio has confirmed that more information about The Sift in Minecraft will be revealed in future Minecraft Live events.
The Sift is already playable in Minecraft Dungeons II, which is now available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Windows and Steam.
For the main Minecraft game, however, Mojang is still targeting 2027 for The Sift to arrive on both Java and Bedrock Edition.
