Onimusha: Way of the Sword is off to a very strong start. Capcom says the new action game sold more than one million copies worldwide in just one day after its release.
That's a pretty impressive return for a series that has been away for a long time. Way of the Sword is the first new mainline Onimusha game in more than 20 years, following 2006's Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams.
Capcom also says the milestone pushed the Onimusha series past 10 million copies sold worldwide. Way of the Sword launched on September 4 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
Blood of Dawnwalker reaches 1 million too
Onimusha isn't the only new release celebrating a million sales this week. The Blood of Dawnwalker has also passed one million copies sold, reaching the milestone within three days of its release.
Rebel Wolves announced the milestone following the game's September 3 launch. Dawnwalker is the studio's first game and is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
We previously covered the game's console performance options and its 60 FPS Performance Mode, which was confirmed for launch following player feedback.
That gives two very different games an impressive start in the same week. Onimusha is returning after a two-decade break, while Dawnwalker is a completely new IP from a new studio.
There is no detailed sales breakdown for either game yet, so it's not clear how much each platform contributed to these milestones.
For now, though, both games have crossed the one-million mark within days of release. Onimusha: Way of the Sword got there in a single day, while The Blood of Dawnwalker followed within three.
