The Blood of Dawnwalker Adds 60 FPS Console Mode After Player Feedback
The Blood of Dawnwalker will receive a Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS on several consoles at launch. Developer Rebel Wolves confirmed the change after players raised concerns about the game's previously announced graphics modes.
The studio initially provided information about console performance without confirming a 60 FPS option. According to Rebel Wolves, the Performance Mode was already being developed but had not completed enough testing for the team to promise it.
60 FPS mode confirmed for launch
Rebel Wolves has now confirmed that the Performance Mode will be included in a day-one patch. The mode will target 60 FPS on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X.
On PlayStation 5 Pro, players will have three graphical options: Performance targeting 60 FPS, Balanced targeting 40 FPS and Quality targeting 30 FPS. The Pro version will also receive overall visual enhancements.
The standard PlayStation 5 receives the same three targets: 60 FPS in Performance Mode, 40 FPS in Balanced Mode and 30 FPS in Quality Mode.
Xbox Series X and Series S
Xbox Series X will also offer Performance, Balanced and Quality modes. The targets are 60 FPS, 40 FPS and 30 FPS respectively.
Xbox Series S is different. The console is listed with a single mode targeting 30 FPS.
- PS5 Pro: 60 FPS, 40 FPS and 30 FPS targets.
- PS5: 60 FPS, 40 FPS and 30 FPS targets.
- Xbox Series X: 60 FPS, 40 FPS and 30 FPS targets.
- Xbox Series S: 30 FPS target.
Why the announcement changed
Rebel Wolves said the Performance Mode was already in development when the studio initially discussed console performance. At that point, however, testing was still underway and the developer was not ready to make a firm promise.
Following player feedback, the team focused on another round of testing. The results gave the studio enough confidence to confirm the mode for launch.
Release date
The Blood of Dawnwalker is scheduled to release on September 3 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The game is directed by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who previously worked as game director on The Witcher 3 and held a production and secondary game director role on Cyberpunk 2077.
With the new Performance Mode confirmed, console players will have several graphical options at launch depending on their hardware. The 60 FPS target is available on PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X, while Xbox Series S remains limited to a 30 FPS target.
