Want to try Monster Hunter Wilds before buying it? Nintendo Switch 2 players can now download a free demo and start their hunting adventure early.
Released on October 20, the prologue demo lets you experience the opening of Capcom's action RPG, including character creation and the story up to Chapter 1-3, "To the Forest." You can also hunt monsters such as Chatacabra and Quematrice and try out the game's 14 weapon types.
Your Progress Won't Go to Waste
Here's the good news: your save data can carry over to the full game. If you decide to buy Monster Hunter Wilds, you can continue your adventure instead of starting from scratch.
The demo also supports local multiplayer for up to four players. However, there's a catch: online multiplayer isn't available in the demo. You'll need to play locally with other nearby Switch 2 players if you want to hunt together.
Check Your Storage Before Downloading
You'll need at least 14 GB of free storage space to download the demo. Once you're ready, look for it in the Nintendo eShop on your Switch 2.
You can also visit the official Nintendo game page for more information.
When Does the Full Game Release?
The full version of Monster Hunter Wilds launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2026. The Switch 2 version will also include content from the game's free title updates, with the Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion planned for 2027.
If you've been curious about the Switch 2 version, this free demo gives you a chance to try the opening before deciding whether to buy the full game.
Will you be downloading the demo, or are you waiting for the full release?
