Nintendo has surprised fans with the reveal of Kirby and the World Beyond, a brand-new 3D adventure coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2.
The game was revealed as the final announcement of Nintendo's latest Direct and is scheduled to launch in spring 2027. The release will also coincide with the 35th anniversary of the Kirby series.
Kirby and the World Beyond takes the pink hero into a much larger 3D environment than previous games in the series. Nintendo says players will be able to freely explore an expansive world while using Kirby's familiar Copy Abilities in new ways.
A New 3D World for Kirby
The first trailer shows Kirby exploring a strange new environment filled with large open areas. The footage also gives a glimpse of Kirby using his Copy Abilities while moving through the world, suggesting that exploration will be an important part of the new adventure.
One of the more unusual moments in the trailer shows Kirby breaking through what appears to be a huge barrier surrounding the area he has been exploring. Beyond it lies an even larger landscape, although Nintendo has not yet explained exactly what this mysterious world is or how it fits into the story.
Kirby also makes use of several familiar abilities, including Sword Kirby. The trailer shows the ability being used in a new way as Kirby moves through the game's larger environments.
Coming to Switch 2 in 2027
Kirby and the World Beyond is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in spring 2027. Nintendo has not announced a more specific release date yet.
The game will also arrive during Kirby's 35th anniversary, which Nintendo says will be celebrated with more information and activities in the future.
For now, Nintendo has only shown the first look at the game, so there are still plenty of unanswered questions about its world, story and gameplay. What is clear is that Kirby is taking another step into 3D exploration with a much larger world to discover.
