Assassin's Creed Valhalla has received a new update introducing New Game+, one of the features players have been requesting for years. The update also adds new progression options, additional rewards and improved visuals for PlayStation 5 Pro.
Available from November 5, the update gives players another reason to return to Eivor's journey. Ubisoft has also included two new achievements, additional runes and a new outfit inspired by Naoe from Assassin's Creed Shadows.
What is New Game+?
New Game+, often shortened to NG+, lets players start a new playthrough after completing a game while keeping certain items and progression from their previous adventure. Instead of beginning completely from scratch, you can return to the story with parts of your existing character already developed.
How this works depends on the game. Some titles let you keep weapons and equipment, while others introduce stronger enemies, additional challenges or new story elements.
For Assassin's Creed Valhalla players, the addition means another opportunity to explore England with Eivor. Ubisoft has also introduced progression adjustments specifically for the new playthrough.
New rewards and progression options
Alongside New Game+, the update includes several additions to Valhalla's progression and equipment systems.
- Enhanced Progression Mode: A revised system combining Gear, Runes and Masteries when calculating Eivor's Power.
- Additional runes: More options for customising equipment.
- Two new achievements: Additional objectives for players to unlock.
- New stash system: Changes to how players manage their collected items.
- Master Assassin outfit: A new outfit inspired by Naoe from Assassin's Creed Shadows.
- Mithril: A new resource used to upgrade Divine Gear and strengthen runes.
PS5 Pro gets upgraded PSSR support
The update also brings a separate visual improvement for PlayStation 5 Pro owners. Assassin's Creed Valhalla now supports an upgraded version of Sony's PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology.
According to Ubisoft, the improved implementation delivers sharper image quality and better visual stability. It also allows Quality Mode to run at 60 frames per second on PS5 Pro.
This graphical upgrade is specific to PS5 Pro and is separate from the New Game+ additions.
Which other games have New Game+?
Valhalla isn't the only game that lets players revisit an adventure without losing all their previous progress. Several well-known games offer their own versions of the feature.
